Garage to utility? Can it be done ?

Hi

Anyone converted a garage into a utility room?

I am thinking of plaster boarding and insulating it. Adding a new insulated garage door, and tiling the floor.

Will it be too cold ?

I did. I loved it. Had floor to ceiling fitted cupboards along one side - brilliant for storing Xmas decorations, suitcases, camping bits, wellies etc.

the other side had a low worktop with a sink. Washer and dryer and more cupboards underneath. Pull out airer on the wall.

Got a bit chilly in winter but if I was in there for any length of time (ironing bloody uniforms- too many kids) I’d put a portable heater on. Didn’t need it when the tumbler was on.

We did, but we had it done properly by a builder: garage door replaced with a brick wall with window, proper floor laid, radiator added. What you’re suggesting sounds like a botch job. Fine if you just want the practical space for yourselves, but it could make it difficult to sell the house in the future.

We did - it had a door already from the back lobby to the garage so easy to do. and we turned the front garage into a playroom opening from the hall.

We did but we've split ours into 2. So our utility is tiny but it works for us. We've got a washing machine and dryer side by side. Worktop and cupboard above that's all we had room for. The other side is a movie room. We've added French doors to the front. Both rooms are smaller then I'd planned them to be but they work for us. Good luck.
