Do I really have to pay

everyone misunderstood the first thread and I couldn’t edit the original post so I am trying to explain it again.

I am in receipt of housing element of universal credit because I can’t afford to pay my rent. I don’t see that money it has always gone directly to the landlord (the council)

When I moved inthey said they require a months payment in advance from me, in addition to the housing element they get each month.

Someone has said this can’t be right that they require a month in advance when the reason I get the housing element is because I can’t afford to pay my rent so it isn’t right they’re taking that I won’t see it back

I’m posting to ask if they’re right? If I have to pay

Yes you do have to pay, most rentals require a months upfront.

Yes you do.

Yep you do, some councils offer to cover a deposit if you’re private renting due to no available council accommodation but it’s usually down to you to pay and sort, made it a nightmare when looking for somewhere to move within budget as you have to consider how much you can put towards deposit
