Does this look silly?

I really wanted one of them lamps that goes over the sofa, a floor reading lamp but can't afford one right now, I've had this one sat in our bedroom for ages doing nothing, I wanted something to soften the corner of the room but I've had to put it behind the sofa because we have toddlers. I just don't know if it looks silly with the radiator there? That one is never one working. I'm going to get a William Morris style lampshade at some point as we already have a linen table lamp in this front room

Anyway if it looks really odd I'll try and find another home for it or sell it

Thanks!

I think it looks fine but might be better in front of sofa just between sofa and small table? If fits.

It looks fine PIL have a similar set up because their dog kept barging into it and knocking it over where it was before

Looks fine. I think they should go behind the sofas if possible, no wires showing and looks tidier. My mum had one behind her chair like that in the corner for reading

Tadpolle · 12/11/2023 17:58

I need that kind of thing. Looks v handy and kid proof. Great!

Looks fine. I have a light behind my sofa too so I can read if I want to.

The radiator you can't help, can you give it a bit more space by pulling the sofa away from the rad a bit? It will be able to heat the room more efficiently too.

Thank you everyone, I do overthink things haha but happy I have found a home for it, going to keep my eyes peeled for a lovely floral print lampshade now!

You could probably switch the lampshade to a corner one?

@ShirleyPhallus I'd love a corner lamp that leans over sofa but can't afford one right now so just making use of the one I have :) I've seen a lovely brass and green one

It looks fine, but maybe a little more space between the radiator and sofa would give it a bit more breathing space. Depends on how much space you have in the rest of the room though I guess.

katsusando · 12/11/2023 18:59

Move your sofa a few inches away from each wall. Not only the sofa, but the lamp and room will look instantly better

You don’t need to switch the whole lamp, just the shade to a square / triangular one so it doesn’t stick out against the wall line that

BlueMongoose · 12/11/2023 19:32

Looks fine to me.
