I know this isn't the most interesting of topics, but in the image, does anyone know what the grey pipe that is pointing upwards is for. It's an oldish house, built in 1970. Many thanks.

Is the pipe coming out of the ground or a concrete wall? It's hard to tell from the picture. How wide is it (diameter)?

Depending on where it is and what it's made of it could have been a connection to an old soil pipe or a flue.

@MaybeSmaller It's coming out of the concrete ground. Next to it is the drain. It appears to be a grey plastic pipe about 6cm in diameter. The soil pipe is in the garage. If it's a flue I'm not sure why it would be there.
