5 amp socket

I have a 5 amp socket in my bedroom so that I can turn on a lamp from the main light switch. However how do I plug my lamp into the socket? My lamp is a normal uk plug and obviously will not go into the 5 amp socket. Is there an adapter type thing I can buy? Thanks 😊

I wouldnt have thought so. The round plug sockets are exactly to prevent you plugging in a normal 13 amp plug. Floor lamps normally come with the round pins installed.

You need to change the actual plug (attached to the lamp) to a 5 amp plug.

Is it a big job to change the plug?

It's any easy job to fit a 5 amp plug, shouldn't take 5 minutes for anyone vaguely familiar with changing a plug.

I am not even vaguely familiar with changing a plug and I did not learn how to do it at school.

It is not something I have needed to do in my 40 years.

However I will give it a try...

Thanks for the helpful advice.

I have a number of these at home. You can get 13amp to 5amp adapters

@Evanna13 Sorry to wake up this old thread…. but I have the same issue. Did simply switching the plugs work? Thanks!
