I know this is normal but… we moved in a few days ago, it’s done nothing but bloody rain, I’m surrounded by boxes, I can’t put anything away because the removals broke my wardrobe, we have no internet despite giving BT two weeks notice that we were moving, and no internet = no TV because for some reason the house has no aerial point, only cable… and don’t get me started on how few sockets there are!! I would give anything to go back to my old house right now despite the fact the new one is lovely!

Remind me it gets better please!

It gets better.

In my case, after about ten years, and we've been here seven. It was a complete refurbishment, but we can't get tradesmen to do anything.

It gets better! We had no internet, no TV and no mobile phone reception for the first few days. The removals guys didn’t put the beds back together properly so they creaked and wobbled until we could find the Allen keys. The previous owners didn’t leave instructions for anything (lots of ‘smart’ things) and we couldn’t google either. Within a week or so we were more settled and able to appreciate our lovely home.

BT can send you a dongle with unlimited internet until they can get your broadband up and running. Give them a call and they'll check the reception to make sure it works and then send out for next day delivery. We did this recently when they pushed the go live date back from 2 weeks to 4 despite being the current supplier. Turns out it was because the previous owner hadn't given notice so the line couldn't be reassigned until the notice period was up which is mind glowingly bonkers but quite normal apparently.

You cold tether any devices to your mobile phone to get the internet? This assumes you have a mobile that will allow you to do so.

I don’t have unlimited data but my partner does. I’ve just been online and seen they should have sent us a mini hub while it’s taking so long to get us online, so I’ve asked for one.

I feel you on the wardrobe thing. When we moved, the removals guys told us that we'd need to dismantle a bookcase and wardrobe as they couldn't get them down the stais assembled. DH did this and even moved the bits downstairs to help.

When we went to put them together in the new house, we found that both had taken too much of a bash in the removal van and we had to bin them anyway!

We had the same issue with BT and the dongle they promised repeatedly never materialised so I went to Currys/PC World and bought my own dongle. We still have it - costs us £30/month but we can take our wifi in the car on long journeys 😂

Plug sockets were also lacking in our house - the upside of this is that we got the electrician round and got them all upgraded to doubles and had extras added while we were at it. So much better.

Everything will feel better when the weather cheers up, I promise.
