Builder to go round property viewing before offering

Hello, just wondering if it's typical practice to ask a builder to accompany you to a property viewing before offering, obviously paying them for their time?

Thinking of offering on a house but it will need work and want an idea of the scope to see if it would work in our budget. Or is it just worth offering and just getting a survey in ASAP?

I wouldn't have an issue with it if it was my property. It's best you have a realistic idea of cost etc as early as possible otherwise you may have to drop out further down the line. That would be most frustrating.
