How to buy a toilet that doesn’t get poo skidmarks!

Doughnut100 · 31/10/2023 07:49

We are about to put a new toilet in. Has anyone bought one recently that has the right angle of back wall so it doesn’t get poo skids all the time? The only way to find out is to poo in it and I don’t think the showroom will take too kindly to that. DP thinks I’m wasting time researching this but last time I checked it was me that cleans the toilet…

I once fell down one of these as a very small child!

😂😂😂I can see my daughter doing this

  1. Buy the correct toilet that doesn’t get poo smeared down it
  2. If any poo does get smeared due to bad toilet design use some folded tissue to wipe it off above water line before flushing and wash hands with soap
  3. Use bleach after flushing and leave.

Thats what I do

We replaced our bathroom and after years of a sparkly clean toilet no matter what your evacuation was, now EVERY SINGLE TIME there is shit all over the thing.

Such a disappointment because its a lovely loo but the angle is so wrong for poo

justasking111 · 05/06/2024 22:26

Husband put a new loo seat on. It's further forward so impossible to prevent skid marks now. It's driving me mad. It's also slipping all the time.

QuickDraining · 05/06/2024 22:28

Swap it for a drop toilet. But hold onto your phone.

mitogoshi · 05/06/2024 22:46

The problem @Doughnut100 is you went for style, the best shaped loo is traditional not the square or d shaped you selected. Also avoid anything by German designers/manufacturers as they have a shelf, don't ask!

It's a case of basic is better as less skids (you can't eliminate completely) and the toilet seat replacements are significantly cheaper. I have the style you bought and the replacement was £35!

Doughnut100 · 05/06/2024 22:49

@mitogoshi nope a pp recommended this exact model so I bought it! didn’t go for the style at all.

Just want to add that the OP is totally right that the type of loo makes a massive difference to the mess left behind, and it's not about diet! The loo in my previous house simply never got (visibly) dirty. Reckon the loo was put in in the early 90s. Few years ago we moved to a house with 3 different toilets in it (guessing put in roughly 2015) and all three suffer the same disgusting problem. We're the same people, with the same diet. The difference has to be the shape of the toilets. The water pressure here is better too, but still doesn't solve the problem.

Ugh. People not getting it. Some toilets are worse than others and even though you go really carefully it just gets bad skid marks from anyone going. Others have a shit shelf as some like to call it- a part that comes out and catches the shit as it falls.
We don’t have a loo brush- horrible things- make me gag. So need a loo that the shit falls stright in the water.
OP just look for one that has no shelves or bends. The old fashioned ones were best as they didn’t have that big bowl part first before the water. They just went straight down. Not sure why now we have to have loos with the new shapes

This! We have one toilet in our house which is a nightmare for stains due to the angle of the pan. The others are absolutely fine. It's on my list to replace for this reason.

Coming very late to this thread - only found it as I was googling for solutions to a toilet that needs the loo brush after EVERY.SINGLE.EFFING.POO. It’s a Roca (bought c.2022). I hate the darn thing and want to rip it out (I would if I had the money), but it’s in the en-suite so most convenient most of the time. In another bathroom, I have a GSI Swirlflush Rimless (bought 2023) and it’s a total godsend. It hardly ever needs a loo brush and it’s really easy to keep clean as there is no hard-to-access rim for muck to lurk under. OP - I understand your pain. You can have a loobrush-free life!

I did and I LOOOVE it. (Is that weird to say?)
I have a JosephJoseph toilet brush that’s flat and silicone bobbled and doesn’t get dirty..
Can find a link to this if it helps.
My one issue with the toilet seat that comes with the toilet is that there is a tiny gap that the kids seem to aim for so I have trouble cleaning it.
we’ve not had it too long so I will replace the toilet seat. But the toilet itself I’m very happy with. Rimless and very easy to clean IMO.

So happy to see this! We bought this exact toilet last week but haven’t installed or opened box yet. TMI but my husband is a chronic toilet blocker with some toilets (old house had one absolutely fine, another that blocked regularly). Hoping this one isn’t the same!

SunnySideDeepDown · 09/08/2025 20:30

@lilyblue5 also can I ask if the toilet seat lid is strong enough to sit on when down? I sit on the toilet to brush kids teeth and my old toilet seat used to buckle and was flimsy.

pashmina696 · 09/08/2025 20:53

Duravit loo with the glaze finish

notthatoldchestnut · 09/08/2025 20:58

I have vitra rimless toilets op and can recommend them.

MH0084 · 10/08/2025 15:10

I have installed a rimless toilet from Vitra and we only occasionally have the skid mark. more related to bad diet than the toilet itself, if that’s what you are asking.

Allseeingallknowing · 10/08/2025 15:19

Our toilet brush is for cleaning the bowl of the toilet only, otherwise it’s impossible to clean the brush afterwards . If there are skid marks, keep a jug handy and rinse them off. Someone should invent a spray which dissolves poo!

Belladog1 · 10/08/2025 15:27

I moved into my rented house in March. I always have a preferred room, seat, mug etc .... and for me my preferred bathroom is the main bathroom. I'm comfortable in there. But .... it has a square toilet and its impossible not to get skiddies when using it.

I used a silicone toilet brush and bleach

GPTec1 · 10/08/2025 15:30

I believe there are sprays that can be used pre use

I think they are deodorising sprays, though, not poo dissolvers.

Never tried them but i believe the idea is they make the pan "non stick" don't know how they work below the water line.
