Which Tradesperson do I need?

Evening everyone!

I have a musty odour in the main bedroom & landing in my home, been going on for some months now, but now the colder weather is here & not having my windows open as much as I do in the summer, it’s just makes it more obvious.

Im at a loss as to what kind of tradesman to locate the problem.

I’ve emptied the wardrobes, cleaned everything from top to bottom, bi-carbed the carpets, & I can’t locate the source, no obvious mould or damp, been in the loft & can’t locate any leaks/damp.

Any ideas? 🤔

Can you try a carpet cleaning machine? It's amazing what they can pull out sometimes!

Also, trying running a dehumidifier- it'll at least show you if there is damp?

Probably not practical for everyone, but my sister's dog found the leak in the bay - he was obsessed with the smell! Can you get someone else (or a dog!) in to see if they can identify it?

Do you air and turn your mattress? If you make the bed and pull the duvet back up over it the minute you get out of bed the bed never airs and the mattress can get a musty. Also, when you change the sheets you need to strip the bed in the morning and leave it for a few hours. Also worth vacuuming the mattress every once in a while to get all the dust etc out.

Might be worth a try before you shell out on a tradesperson.

We were actually looking at hiring a dehumidifier for a week or so, might just have to give that a try.

I just bought a damp measure gizmo on Amazon for a fiver before shelling out £££ on a dehumidifier I thought I'd see how bad it was first!

Seapool,
Great minds think alike! our mattress was about 6/7 years old, so we actually bought a new one this summer, along with new pillows & duvet, so I definitely know that wasn’t the cause.

it just so frustrating, arghhhh!

Are you in a terrace or Semi detached house OP? We had a smell like that for YEARS - turned out it was due to neighbours smoking in bedrooms. I think that's an issue with the construction of our houses but even so, might be relevant.

No, we’re in a detached house.
