Tradespeople

Does anyone have terrible problems with getting tradespeople to response/quote? We have recently decorated our bedroom and need a plumber to re-fit the tiny en-suite - it doesn't even have a toilet! I have tried ringing people who don't respond, had people out who seem to want the job and then vanish before we even have a quote!!! To make it worse they do not answer their phone or reply to any messages. I don't know what to do now!!! Its really starting to make me anxious as nothing is finished. We live in a normal house, in a normal street, friendly people but its becoming a theme now.
We had a chap who was going to lay our patio but 2 days before he was due to start he asked for double the original quote..........................................

Yep. So many problems.

I have also ignored the odd red flag because I have been so glad to finally find someone and ended up with more problems than when I started. I have used the local council for trusted trades but they pay to be on the list so no real guarantee of reliability. I spent a long time on the local facebook pages looking at other people's recommendations only to realise most of them are juts recommending their mates with no idea of how their work is.

It's a total nightmare, really frustrating stuff and I have no idea how to find anyone decent.

It took me 18 months from deciding to get the drive done to work starting. We had people quote for not quite what i asked for, people not turn up at all and someone left me on a wait list for months then juts didn't turn up

@macandcheeses frustrating isn't it? I just begin to think people don't actually want to do any work. I get so disheartened when I see other people getting beautiful projects finished and I am just waiting!

Yes! I did OK with electrician, plumber, drain company and plasterer (although I had to wait a month for him to be available, the good ones are always really busy) but really struggling to find a general handyman to finish smaller jobs in my new house...

I posted on a local Facebook group for my area/small town to try to find a handyman and have had a few recommendations maybe something you could try?
