Where to add bath

We are 50/50 as to whether to move house or stay and extend. We’re currently in a 3 bedroom end of terrace cottage which is more top heavy as currently only have a small living area and kitchen downstairs.

If we stayed the idea would be to remove the downstairs bathroom as we never use it (bath doesn’t even work) and tank the basement to create a wc, utility room and small gym.

We’d then knock down the wall between the current living room and kitchen, creating a larger living area with dining area where the kitchen is, and extend 5metres out of the back to create a kitchen with sofa and large french doors opening out on the garden.

The issue we have is this would mean we would lose the main ‘family’ bathroom. We already have a shower room installed upstairs in the small cupboard like room which is 3m x 1m. We just don’t know where to fit a bath or small bathroom upstairs.

Any ideas would be welcome! Or if you have any ideas on how to refigure the layout downstairs and upstairs would be so appreciated.

thank you

Would you consider doing a double height extension and adding a bathroom upstairs that way?

We definitely could but would be an added cost!
