Extension struggles

Really really struggling with the extension we are in the midst of building. I hate living in chaos and just want it over. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? i feel like I’m going to lose my mind.
we are 6 months in (mostly diy) but I’m not sure we’re even 50% done. Probably 30-40%
argh. I just needed to vent.
Help!!

I think the middle bit is the worst, it feels like you are stuck with it and can't go back but the end is nowhere in sight. You do just have to put one food in front of the other and put up with it, but maybe (if you have any spare cash!) treating yourselves out of the house would help give you a break from the dust? I remember losing it one day when even my apple was dusty!

This time last year the whole back of my house was down- house propped up - chip board between me and the back garden. Bloody freezing and not very secure! And I lived in the house for the entire build. I am a single female and there were some nights I didn’t get any sleep! Oh and every phone call seemed to cost £1,000😂.

it was cold, dusty, mousing, messy and I put on three stone because I didn’t have great cooking facilities.

But it’s over and it was with all the hassle!!

my kitchen is beautiful / and I have so much storage I still have some empty cupboards

you will get there.

It is pants isn't it. So enormously time consuming that life becomes really pressured on top of the constant financial stress. I comfort myself my assuring myself that no matter what happens I am never doing this again. House is getting bigger and nicer but when it's a building site that isn't much consolidation. Cold weather really shows the lack of finish. You have my sympathy and gratitude for not staying you love it and making me feel I should be coping better! Hopefully today there are no builders?

Everyone has lows ( and highs ) when renovating/ extensions. I find keeping the place as neat, clean and tidy as possible helps a lot and then just focus on one job at a time instead of the whole thing.

you just have to keep going , im currently about 2/3 through an extension too build and budget and it still looks like a building site 😕

Chin up op …….. pain is glory 💪🏼

Just run with it pack away everything you don’t need

you won’t get everywhere clean just used to use the hoover with dusting brush on to keep on top of it don’t obsess about dust you won’t get rid of it

I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling! No nothing happening today which is good on one hand but also means nothing is moving forward. Thanks @CountryCob i am not very gratitude-filled atm. The weather has turned and all of sudden it’s freezing!! What are you having done?

we have small kids so it is tricky with them. Given up cleaning in many places! Keep thinking “why clean this as it’s getting ripped out soon” 😂

Thanks @Bellyblueboy @Diyextension @coronafiona it is good to know there is life post-extension (eventually!!!)
I do not cope well with chaos and it just feels very overwhelming just now!

The dust is horrendous and I am not sure anything can prepare you! We are a year into demolishing and rebuilding a side single storey and rear double storey extension plus renovation inside on a home we have lived in for some time. We moved out for 4 months while drains were relaid and most of our possessions have been in storeage since last April, around the start of summer I had had enough but we won't be finished until December and decoration level finished will I think be next Spring. I find it very relentless now living with temporary kitchen etc and query the scale of what we have started although it will be nice in the end. Thankfully not far behind budget or target dates. We have a mid primary school child and it is hard keeping home with children in a build - keeping them safe, warm and fed something healthy they like from the temporary kitchen options. In retrospect I think I was too busy with work and other responsibilities for the work in the build and living in a building site. I hope in the future to be glad we did this but at the moment I am not loving it at all tbh
