Extractor smaller than conduction hob

So the recommended guidance is to make sure your extractor hood is at least as wide as your induction hob….but….I’m getting an 80cm induction hob and can’t get 80+ in the same brand/style as my hob and ovens. They seem to no longer be manufactured in those sizes. I can get a 73cm hood that I would like but it would be 5cm shorter than the hob. I’ve read it would be ok for a gas hob but apparently induction heat is different so it is not advised?

so…anyone able to disprove this claim with a shorter hood that works just fine? I’m after some good anecdotal evidence of “oh it doesn’t matter a jot” 😁

I'd probably look at 90cm ones tbh

@TheBelmont what did you end up getting? I'm I the same situation at the moment.

i got a 90cm one in the end and I’m a bit bitter at losing the 10cm cupboard space 😁 I haven’t actually moved back into the property to use it yet as it is still being refurbed so don’t really know if it will make a noticeable difference. So probably not a very helpful response! Everything I read when googling told me it should be equal or wider and I didn’t find anything to say shorter was fine so based on that I followed the guidance.

I am a bit pissed off though at the lack of 80cm extractors! Why make 80cm hobs with no matching extractors (looking at YOu Siemens/Neff/Bosch). The only ones they made that size were those ones that look like black TVs above your hob which I didn’t like the look of.

Sorry to be unhelpful we have a 90cm hob and TV style extractor hood, not convinced the extractor is of much benefit. so possibly the smaller unit would have done.

Thanks for the replies. My kitchen fitter has a 75cm extractor that would have been great for our current 60cm hob. Yesterday I found a NEFF 80cm hob but now need a larger extractor.
