Anyone had Thermabead cavity insulation done?

Hi all

I live in a detached house built around 1989 and have been recommended thermabead carbon saver for my cavity walls, supplier is via the energy company at no cost and it comes with a 25 year insurance backed guarentee.

Has anyone ever had this done? I've heard reports of damp issues after certain cavity wall insulations however apparently its more on older properties that have this issue.

Advice would be appreciated :)

I would always be deeply suspicious of anything offered for free, but that's just me.

What's your current EPC rating?

Following with interest

There are a few government schemes around that pay for cavity wall and loft insulation for certain groups/houses.

We had cavity wall insulation in the middle of last winter. The house definitely felt warmer after having it done and we had previously had issues with damp on internal walls which disappeared overnight. We didn't have previous energy usage to compare because it was our first winter in the house but our gas bills seemed lower than we had expected.

One thing I would say, is that you do need to ventilate your house to allow moist air to escape, otherwise you can end up with damp in the loft particularly - our installer recommended roof vents which seem to have done the trick.

Watching with interest as we are looking at insulating options. How did you manage to get it for free? What was the criteria if you don't mind me asking?

Current EPC rating is D I believe.

Not quite sure why its free to be honest, it came from the gas/elec company so not sure if they had some sort of promotion on when we signed up to their tariff.

The alternative to cavity wall insulation is the loft one so I guess I could go with that to be on the safe side, when searching online theres a few too many reports of people having issues with cavity wall insulation and then getting damp which is worrying me.
