Can you retrospectively fit spotlights in a bathroom?

In the middle of quite a big renovation job involving an extension and creating two extra bathrooms. One bathroom is basically finished (just some minor snagging to do) but I’ve realised there’s not enough light in there. We could really do with an extra spotlight or two as the shower is quite dark.

Will this be a pain to do - will it involve making lots of holes in the brand new freshly plastered and painted ceiling? My builders are lovely and will do whatever I ask but I can’t help feeling reluctant to ask them to do something that’ll likely be v a PITA….

Assuming the wiring isn't accessible from above then yes it'll mean cutting holes in the ceiling wherever the cable needs to go through a timber.
It depends on whether the cable run needs to be along or across timbers how many holes you'll need from none to lots.

A little annoying considering its freshly painted but if done carefully its an easy repair.

Thank you. I’ve no idea about the cable run….argh, I’m so annoyed for not getting more in the first place!!

Yes

Well yes but it’s not a big job, they will just make the holes for the lights and then thread the wiring through, and you just paint it after, we had it done.

Just did this in the kitchen, needed quite a few extra holes to route the cables, if they core those holes the cores go back in with just a bit of filing around, looks good as new. Locating the beams (and noggins) to get the holes between was the biggest problem, and a bit of fun with pulling wires to get the cables through.

Sorry to jump in - I'm just trying to work out how many spot lights we need for a bathroom- anyone have a guide / suggestions? Have found some online, but it would be great if anyone has some experience.
