Realise this thread is probably going to be polarising... New tenants have moved in below (relatively young) and I've never had issues with noise below. Often come in at 1am stomping up communal stairs, blaring music and I can hear them word for word. I have a pretty full on job and it's starting to annoy me so after knocking last week when music was pretty loud I have this morning left a very polite note. Now I feel guilty for this, was it the wrong thing to do? I move from room to room to avoid but it's going through my entire flat and making me feel quite anxious and I am barely getting relaxation time..

They are allowed to play music and talk in their flat. I believe that you are meant to be quiet 11pm-7am, so if they are being noisy in these hours I’d be mentioning it to whoever manages the flats.

YANBU hopefully they are decent types who just haven't realised how much the noise carries.

MidnightOnceMore · 11/10/2023 07:17

YANBU, their music shouldn't disturb you.

Music at 1am isn't ok, hopefully things will improve. You should not feel guilty about leaving a polite note, it was the right thing to do.

Loud music consistently at 1am us not ok. A one off is excusable but apart from that, nope.

A polite note seems fine. They may not realise how noise transmits, especially at night when there are no other sounds.
