Nicest places commutable to London

We are a couple with a 1yo DD looking to move to an area commutable to London with good schools and a nice community feel. Max commute 1hr so quite open on location north of the Thames. Family in Yorkshire so wouldn't consider anything south side as lovely as Kent/Surrey are. Experiences/thoughts would be great.

These posts come up frequently. Have a look at some of the threads recommended under yours with almost exact same wording and read through the comments.

Which part of London do you need to be in? It's pointless recommending Berkshire if you need to be in Canary Wharf for instance.

I dunno. Berkshire on the Elizabeth line will get you straight into canary wharf, no changing trains or tubes.

But yes whereabouts in London op?

Cambridge? Not sure about community feel though, it can be isolated and cliquey.

Harpenden is nice.

GypsyTartForSchoolLunch · 10/10/2023 01:46

Chislehurst, although it's expensive!

She said not Kent ... I was thinking Sevenoaks or Tunbridge Wells til I saw that!)

St Albans

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/10/2023 03:19

Yes, you want St Albans or Harpenden. Not cheap though.

HappiestSleeping · 10/10/2023 04:33

Berkhamsted? Also expensive.

Thanks all! And thank you to the person who asked me to have a look through other threads, I have done so.

In terms of where we need to be in London we are flexible as it won't be every day so don't mind a little ride across town or some walking.

Thank you so much for all the answers, greatly appreciated.
