Surrey to East Sussex

Looking to move to East Sussex from Surrey. We rent and if we have any chance of buying we need to move somewhere cheaper to rent! My parents are in West Sussex and I work in West Sussex (do a job where I cannot work where I live) so East Sussex seems ideal.
Thinking of uckfield or heathfield. What are these areas like? Have two primary DC x

Both are a bit out in the sticks Heathfield small country town between Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells Many retirement places and also upmarket country properties There is even Waitrose Uckfield also quiet place but has a cinema at least

Uckfield is much bigger, there’s more facilities there such as train station, cinema etc. Also much quicker to get to West Sussex. Heathfield much more of a farmers town, out in the sticks, no trains, and I used to find it very difficult to book a taxi if needed. Very laid back, I have fond memories of living there. I think I’d choose Uckfield to bring up children unless you particularly want a more rural life and to drive everywhere. Oh and it often snowed in Heathfield when there was no snow anywhere else in the county!
