Quoted 135k for sunroom conversion!

So I just want to check I’m not going completely mad but we were quoted this (not in London either) to replace glass of sunroom which would require new foundations (tiny footprint), knocking down some internal window structures, plastering and glass roof. It just seems completely, wildly too high a price right?!

You can buy a whole house near me for less than that! 😱

That number sounds like a 'we don't really want the job so are gonna quote you three times the amount' types of quotes.

I really hope it is, anyway.

How many quotes did you get?

It was the first one - gave us a great laugh at least!

The only thing I could think was are you building an extension…? Would that explain it?

user1504044345 · 09/10/2023 23:50

Nope it’s literally just a glass lean to!

Somewhere in the 15 - 40 grand mark depending on how good a finish, what excavation is needed, how big and so on.

TomatoSandwiches · 10/10/2023 08:22

Outrageous, I agree with pp, they don't want the job for whatever reason.

MartyFunkhouser · 10/10/2023 08:22

To all intents and purposes it will become an extension, as it will no longer be exempt under the regulations. But still a wildly inflated price.

GasPanic · 10/10/2023 10:47

Tell them you want a "glass lean to" building rather than a "sun room".

Yes sometimes if people don't want the job they will quote silly money and see whether it works.
