Would you remove Halloween decorations before a house viewing?

House has been on the market since early summer so haven't been expecting a viewing any time soon. So I've let the kids put some Halloween decs up and of course I've now got a viewing in 2 days ha! Would you remove the decs before the viewing? It's a large family home so I wouldn't be expecting anyone without kids to be viewing it and there's nothing I would say is offensive- just some bats and cobwebs etc in the windows Grin

I'd probably leave them up. It does seem very early though but that's not what you asked 😂.

Tell me about it! Kids have been desperate for weeks and I caved. They're not happy about moving so anything to keep the peace at the mo!

If it's just bats and cobwebs then I'd say fine. Skeletons clawing their way out of cupboards or anything with fake blood - perhaps not!

coxesorangepippin · 04/10/2023 17:03

Yes

We have autumn wreaths, garlands and baskets of fabric pumpkins around the place. I've no intention of taking them down for viewings. I was happy to declutter plenty of stuff but the seasonal decorations are important Grin Halloween will start making its way up soon too.

KievLoverTwo · 04/10/2023 17:20

No.

wellywacker · 04/10/2023 17:41

No I wouldn't. It's your home

SirWalterElliot · 04/10/2023 17:42

Yes because it dates the pictures eg if you don't sell quickly and potential buyers see your pics in the new year they'll know you've been waiting months to sell (which may impact on what they offer).

Changethetoner · 04/10/2023 17:43

Yes, because it's too early. And because it is a distraction from what the viewers are coming to look at. How seriously do you want to sell your house?

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 04/10/2023 17:44

I'd take them down. Halloween is just less than 4 weeks away

It's just a viewing- pics were taken months ago

I am not desperate to sell at all so maybe I'll keep them up 🤣

No! I'm trying to buy doing all our viewings with my kids in tow, they really need things like Halloween decorations to cheer things up. I can't imagine why it would make any difference to whether someone would buy or not. In fact it may help them to picture their family there. We viewed a house in the summer that was all decked out in gothic Halloween style in every room. It was the huge cracks in the wall and turning out to be really a 1-bed not a 3-bed and not the decorations that put us off!

Chimphusb · 04/10/2023 19:23

It’s not early it’s October! This would encourage me to buy a house

fancyfrogs · 04/10/2023 19:25

Keep them up! 😊

theduchessofspork · 04/10/2023 19:32

Yes. Keep it simple

Also Op - not for FOUR WEEKS

theduchessofspork · 04/10/2023 19:33

You should go over to the 1st December box question thread - I bet you are right in there

(I had never heard of it, obvs)

ludocris · 04/10/2023 19:34

I wouldn't. I think the Christmas decorations were partly what sold me on our current house!

Everyday is Halloween in my house. It is not on the market at the moment but when we do the only things I will be removing are a cushion which says "haunted house" and a couple of items which have images of ouja boards on. The bats, skeletons, pumpkins, grim reapers and grotesques (gargoyles) will remain on display.

BarbedButterfly · 04/10/2023 19:39

Don't see why it is too early since it is October but never mind. Leave them up.

passingshipsoccasionally · 04/10/2023 19:45

It depends on how extensive the decorations are! If your viewers have to fight their way through cobwebs and skull bones just to see the kitchen then yeah, I'd probably say take them down. 😂

openallday · 04/10/2023 19:54

Halloween decs a month early?
