Cleaner sprayed the flatscreen TV....

Help!

Cleaner has used a product to clean the flatscreen TV and now there are streaks that a microfibre cloth cannot budge off.

How do I fix this?! Husband is going to go fucking spare, its his pride and joy.

Jesus christ calm down, no need to leave the bastard. It is a brand new and expensive TV. And he will fix it, I am just trying to see if theres anything I can do now!

Thanks for the helpful responses - have just ordered a proper screen cleaner. Too nervy to try vinegar!

Honestly, there are people on here who just hate men. It's ridiculous.

scrivette · 04/10/2023 20:10

You might not like this but it worked on mine for streaks caused by milk, I breathed on the tv to make it slightly damp and then gently buffed in a circular motion to get rid of the steaks. It meant the cloth was dry and the tv didn't get too wet.

gamerchick · 04/10/2023 20:17

Ignore the dick posts OP. I would be less than impressed as well. OLEDs are expensive bits of kit and I wouldn't be taking any advice tbh with random household items. I'd be looking into it properly. It should be ok though, they're tougher than you think I'd be gutted though. Is there nothing in the handbook?

Tel cleaner not to touch any screens in future

determinedtomakethiswork · 04/10/2023 20:19

You crossed to boundaries on Mumsnet, OP. Firstly, you said you had a cleaner. Unforgivable. Secondly, you said you had an expensive television. Even worse. You have now got a reputation for being utterly lazy and too rich for your own good!

Gettingonabitnow · 04/10/2023 23:07

Omg why are there so many dickhead comments on here 😂 Jesus Christ, mumsnet sometimes honestly

flowertreesgrass · 05/10/2023 09:35

Have you managed to get it back to how it was now?

Dinnerlady12 · 05/10/2023 09:48

I'd be gutted if this happened to me too. In fact I did it to my own TV and ruined it. My friend has her own cleaning company and I used to work with her. One rule she had was that she wouldn't clean any TVs as she wouldn't risk ruining it.

Gentle buffing with a clean microfibre seems to have undone most of the damage but there is def still a weird discolouration on the screen. Am hopefully getting the proper screen cleaner today which might help put it back to how it was.

@Iamnotastick

Thanks good, hopefully the other stuff will get it fully back to how it was.

flowertreesgrass · 05/10/2023 11:06

*that's

PurpleButterflyWings · 05/10/2023 11:15

I'm really sorry to hear this @Iamnotastick . This has never happened to any of our tellies, but it has happened to a chrome hob that me and DH had a few years ago. We'd only just had it after getting a new kitchen, and DH got one of those scourer things to try and clean it, (even though it wasn't dirty!) and he put a nasty scratch mark on it. It was brand new. I was absolutely gutted! And fucking raging with him !!! (Ooooh maybe he needs to leave me!) 😯

I had to keep a saucepan on it permanently so nobody could see it. Also, he put a pretty nasty scratch mark on the flipping fireplace surround... Again, by scrubbing it with a scourer. (Thought he'd have learned from the hob!) We managed to paint that, but we couldn't really do much about the hob.

I hate to say this, but I don't think that your TV screen's ever going to lose the weird discolouration. It might have done 25 plus years ago when they were made from a hard glass, but they're very, very delicate now. I think you're going to have to tolerate it until you can find the money for a new telly to be honest. Maybe get another one, and use that as a spare for the bedroom or something.

Sorry about your telly! Flowers

We left the house with the scratched hob on 3 years later, but it was so annoying looking at it every day LOL! 😆

Iamnotastick · 04/10/2023 16:55

Ok, I am going to change my post from 'fucking spare' to 'crushingly upset and panic that the new TV is fucked.'

Better?

He doesnt shout, or swear, ever.

Ignore the horrible people on here. It's horrible when something new is damaged. My kids spilled something on my new cushions a few weeks ago, my mil thought it was funny that I was cross at them. I should expect them to ruin things.

DinnaeFashYersel · 05/10/2023 12:02

@Thewizardbinbag

Either way. It's an insurance claim if not fixable.

CatMattress · 05/10/2023 12:42

Please report back, OP. I'm somewhat over-invested in the state of your telly (ben a while since I got a new one. Kids just ruin everything within moments of getting it so given up!)

sunglassesonthetable · 05/10/2023 21:45

Anybody "going spare" (and I'm an English teacher so don't need it explaining) at his wife because of the TV having a smear is unpleasant at best, and a bully at worst.

Hmm comprehension. She didn't say he's going to go spare at her.

Always read over.

God alive is this peak MN?

Someone's forked out for something expensive and it might be fucked. Are people not allowed to go spare anymore?
Dear God it's just something people say.
Some absolute stirrers on this thread.

Good Luck Op. 🤞🏼

Goodgrief83 · 04/10/2023 15:13

Scary husband. Shudder at thought of being married to someone like this

Sorry but this made me laugh 😆

sunglassesonthetable · 05/10/2023 21:48

Very diluted white vinegar? Husband needs to get a life if his pride and joy is a TV.

WTF?

Why?

What's yours? That's so special?

Blueeyedmale · 05/10/2023 21:56

What if it was a man posting saying that his wife would go spare I wonder if those concerned would still have that level of concern

Rosiee29 · 05/10/2023 22:00

She's just not buffed it enough lol. Use white vinegar or regular polish and buff it more. It won't be damaged

Notlaughingalot · 05/10/2023 22:04

I've noticed this more and more recently.

TheBushOfYourGarden · 06/10/2023 07:08

This thread is so salty 🙄

rileynexttime · 06/10/2023 08:53

@Iamnotastick did the screen cleaner help ?

I think you'll find the telly thing is "a bit common" rather than "lazy" or "too rich".

FiveShelties · 06/10/2023 09:06

I hope you get it sorted OP. I would be upset and so would my husband and I cannot see anything wrong with that. If you look after your stuff it is disappointing when something is damaged.
