Cleaner sprayed the flatscreen TV....

Help!

Cleaner has used a product to clean the flatscreen TV and now there are streaks that a microfibre cloth cannot budge off.

How do I fix this?! Husband is going to go fucking spare, its his pride and joy.

A lot of jealous people on here Grin

The tv is his pride and joy? Lmaooo

You are an over privileged idiot. Why should her husband not be proud of the new TV he has presumably worked hard to afford? And why is it funny that he should enjoy it?

GasPanic · 04/10/2023 16:03

I would check on the web for some professional cleaner.

Never use aggressive cleaners or scouring cloths first off. So for example, pure water (distilled) with a microfibre cloth is probably the most harmless thing to use. Tap water can leave a residue due to dissolved salts, like it does on shower doors.

On something like a mirror flat surface, you really don't want to use anything abrasive. Cleaners generally work through two actions, polarity of the solvent (water : polar, organic : less polar) and through abrasion (like baking soda) which scratch out things from the surface. Needless to say they can also scratch the surface in the process. Organic solvents you should be very careful on using them with plastics, because they will actually dissolve the surface of the plastic.

Maybe check on the website of the TV manufacturer for instructions to clean. But the key thing is not to rush. Get armed with all the information first, then decide how to clean. Because what is done cannot be undone, and if you scratch it by cleaning it you won't get the scratches out again.

CurlewKate · 04/10/2023 16:04

It wasn't the TV I was bothered by. It was "My husband is going to go fucking spare." That's awful.

Megifer · 04/10/2023 16:08

Tbf id go fucking nuts if this happened to my TV 🤣 I love my gaming too nothing worse than a streaky telly it throws the aiming off completely 😩

Thatladdo · 04/10/2023 16:10

Oh oh. Youve got to be SUPER careful what you clean tv's with.
Its very easy if you use a non specialist cleaner to ruin the surface of the screen.
What did you use?

plumtreebroke · 04/10/2023 16:12

I use window cleaner on ours. What did she spray on it? Probably just smeared it, main danger is pressing too hard on it.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/10/2023 16:12

Do you know what she used?
I believe the screens are coated which you can't risk destroying
I do have a smart TV.. but a £200 Samsung and I was nervous about cleaning that so I understand your worry

Jesus christ calm down, no need to leave the bastard. It is a brand new and expensive TV. And he will fix it, I am just trying to see if theres anything I can do now!

Thanks for the helpful responses - have just ordered a proper screen cleaner. Too nervy to try vinegar!

Loving someone bawling everybody out like you are telling other people to calm down.

Your husband needs a hobby and both of you need to learn how to use a dusted.

And use your words instead of swearing at people. Not classy.

Thatladdo · 04/10/2023 16:12

Cleaner* use.

Did the tv come with a care/cleaning kit? It will have proper cleaner and cloth to clean it, maybe partialy undo whats been done

JobMatch3000 · 04/10/2023 16:15

Vinegar. White not malted. It will be fine.

Dadfromthesea · 04/10/2023 16:16

I have a pretty good TV (it’s not my pride and joy. God no. That’s the fridge.). It’s an LG OLED one, and they recommend just using a damp micro-fibre cloth. I don’t know whether that would get rid of streaks caused by another cleaning product, but you’ve nothing to lose by trying it. Good luck!

He has a hobby. It involves the tv which is currently streaky because the cleaner used the wrong product. Do try to keep up.

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 04/10/2023 16:18

I have the same problem only the kids did it 🤦🏽‍♀️could you let me know if the screen cleaner works. Thanks!

oOiluvfriendsOo · 04/10/2023 16:19

Some real nasty comments on here.

'He'll go spare' is a phrase, doesn't mean he'll actually beat up the cleaner or the op.

And why laugh at someone because their TV is 'their pride and joy', some people have to save real hard to afford nice things, be it a tv or a car and not have the money to replace it if damaged.

truthhurts23 · 04/10/2023 16:19

planeberry · 04/10/2023 15:22

Very minimally damp corner of a soft micro fibre cloth worked here, when the cleaner did the same thing to our new tv. He's now fully trained to just dust it!

You have a male cleaner.. interesting

I don’t have a cleaner now (can’t afford one anymore!) but I did have a cleaner when I was at uni and he was a male cleaner. Not sure how it’s interesting.

Oh no! I’m not fucking classy either so gutted 😫. And I try so hard to be classy ALL the time because it’s so important… 😭

Seems like OP’s hubby does have a hobby. Is this yours?

icelollycraving · 04/10/2023 16:23

The responses on here are really weird and knobbish. It’s quite normal to want to look after things. Try screen spray or lens spray on an e cloth. If you face Robert Dyas near you, pop down. They have lots of products for this kind of thing. Hope the cloth she used was clean with no residues or gritty business.

dayofcheese · 04/10/2023 16:23

Why you so worried about your husband's reaction?

Thoughtful2355 · 04/10/2023 16:23

Not sure why people are getting funny. I don't have much money but bought my kids a big TV to watch films on and would be really sad if it got damaged or cleaned wrong. You should never use cleaning products on TV screens.

My pride and joy after my family is my gaming laptop and I'd cry if it was broken, that's my hobby

It is interesting .. don’t see a lot of male cleaners

truthhurts23 · 04/10/2023 16:36

Step 1. lightly buff the screen with a dry microfibre cloth, on the areas where there are scuffs.

Step 2. Dampen a clean microfibre cloth in water , wring it out and gently wipe down the screen In circular motions .

Step 3. After you’ve wiped the screen down , dry it gently with paper towels
and repeat the process one more time,
wipe with damp cloth, dry with paper towel

this should remove the product she used, to prevent further damage

after the screen is dry , you can gently buff it one more time with a dry microfibre cloth, they usually come in 3 or 4 packs, so you have one for each task

CatMattress · 04/10/2023 15:44

Entirely possible.

I'm just surprised by how nasty people are being on this thread. Perhaps it's jealousy that the OP can afford a new TV and a cleaner. I can't think what else would trigger such snide comments. Perhaps I just forgot to put my cactus lined underwear on this morning and am therefore not feeling quite as prickly as everyone else.

I missed the nastiness.

unless you’re referring to me saying the OP’s husband sounded “scary”.

And to me - to think this was going to be my husband’s response, well, I’d find that scary 🤷‍♀️

Womencanlift · 04/10/2023 16:41

Yip I’d be pissed off too, especially if new and you had saved up for it. You would think a cleaner would know better. Did they apologise?
