Unblocking shower/sink - what else can I try?

Looking for more ideas for things I can try to unblock the waste pipe from my shower and sink.

I have tried a bottle of bathroom drain unblocker, bleach, and boiling water with washing powder. Not going to try caustic soda as been told not to in the past by a plumber!

Thank you

Not so much the shower but can you take the S bend apart on the sink and scoop out the gunk?

Second the plunger or snake. I molt like crazy so have a hair trap which is amazingly disgusting

Hello @PigletJohn yes it’s an en suite added in a loft extension. Done by the previous owners. Water has to travel the full length of the house to get out (small Edwardian terrace house so about 20 feet). En suite is at the back, waste water comes out the front

Very likely the problem is the pipe run. Might be too small, insufficient slope, elbows instead of swept bends.

After many years of inconvenience, I think you will have to take the floors up and run it better. Or you could do it sooner. In the meantime, look for hair traps for the plughole.

You haven't got a poo mincer, I hope?

Check where the waste water comes out, you might of unblocked it but if there's a big clump of whatever at the end it might just need removing so water can clearly drain

@PigletJohn you guessed right re: the poo mincer and it causes us no end of issues…!

I think you’re absolutely right about the blockage being in the pipe run. I can run the water for a while before it starts to back up, so I think the blockage is quite far down the pipes. And this I think is what’s making it hard to unblock!

Plunged today and quite a lot of gunk came up. But water still not draining. Got the Screwfix drain unblocker down there now to leave overnight

Gosh, just welcoming back @PigletJohn. There have been so many rising damp threads where I kept thinking you would arrive like a knight in breathable lime plaster any second. Was getting really worried something had happened to you and couldn't work out what the protocol would be to ask MNHQ...

Sorry OP, as you were. Back to your blocked sink. The cavalry has arrived.

Barcabonate of soda, sprinkle loads.. then pour white distilled vinegar down..

So it’s finally unblocked after a three day endeavour. Way more chemicals than I would have liked to use but it cost a fortune last time we had to have it unblocked, including having to cut a hole in the ceiling.

It is a walk in shower with a flat drain so I’m not sure whether I can find a hair trap suitable for it. Has anyone seen anything that might work?

We've got something like this. You'll be able to find something on Amazon.
