This might be an odd question but i'm looking at something like an everhot electric stove for my empty fireplace. Where do you put the plug? do i need a socket in the fireplace? I don't want a long plug cord stretching across the fireplace

If you don't have a socket or fused connection unit in the fireplace then you'll need to find a creative way of hiding the cord.

Can you post a picture of the fireplace and show where the nearest socket is? I might have some suggestions on what to do.

@MaybeSmaller thank you for responding. I can't get a photo to upload for some reason but the fireplace is in the middle of alcoves where I do have plug points. I don't mugs paying an electrician to put one inn

In that case it should be possible for an electrician to extend one of the existing socket circuits to put a socket where you need it.

Without seeing your fireplace I can't easily advise other options, but you can get decorative trunking (e.g. D-Line, available from B&Q) which can be painted to match your existing skirting boards if you want.
