Survey - how long did you wait to get it done?

Hi

We have an older property that we need a level 3 RICS surgery on. A very popular surveyor says it’s Oct 9 ( week off) for them. 10 -14 days the usual time to wait for a survey? We are getting pressure off the vendors to arrange it asap so just wondering if that’s the norm

I had to wait about 10 days to get an appointment. I booked it in fairly soon after getting my offer accepted. This was back in April/May.

When was the offer accepted? If this week,I think that's fine.
If last month, I think the vendors are right in pushing to get things moving.

Our buyers waited until the bank had done a valuation and agreed a mortgage before sorting an independent surveyor. It's delayed things!

Seems quite a long way off. I would try some other surveyors today that get good reviews and see if you can find one that could do it next week instead.

It’s normal to wait for mortgage offer before booking survey? Pointless paying for survey if you can’t get mortgage. And OP, yes that seems a normal wait.

Having an offer accepted in June, and a survey in October is normal?? It's absolutely NOT normal, and definitely delayed our sale last year.

Offer accepted last October, survey was in January.

But the hold up was because I refused to pay out £1200 for the survey until the vendors answered a few particular enquiries.

By the time they finally answered, I booked the survey, which was fine, and then we completed in February.

2-3 weeks is the norm for “popular” surveyors to do a Level 3 survey locally. Booked one on 20/09, first date available was 9/10. SE London.

A standard mortgage company valuation can happen much quicker because they use massive national companies. That might be what your sellers are thinking of….

Hi,

offer accepted on Wednesday, but after a valuation came in lower so we took a while to negotiate the price. Thank you for your replies. We'll go with the date given
