Packing tape

Yes it’s not very exciting but I bought duck tape to use on packing boxes and it’s not really sticking down after a few days.
Previous move I used parcel tape and had similar issues.
So what tape have you had success with?

Should say using normal packing cardboard boxes

I've always used cheap brown parcel tape - but usually takes 3 layers (one central and one either side over lapping the tape and the box) to secure it.

Duct (duck??)/gaffa tape. You must have got a particularly naff one, I have used it on many moves and it always sticks.

Are you smoothing it down with your hand after putting in place?

Invest in the tape and gun. So time saving and quite fun! Doesn't look good on a bare arm though. Leaves a cheese grated effect.. In ds's experience... Bloody idiot!

After moving house many many times, I find it totally depends on the quality of the brown packing tape. It used to be much thicker and more sticky but nowadays its cheaper and you use three times as much! Like PP said, use at least 3 strips on each join, use a tape dispenser/gun to pull the tape as tight as you can, sometimes you need to tape across the ends just to make it secure. Good luck!!

I’m going to have to experiment with different parcel tapes aren’t I!
I just thought buying the branded gaffs tape would work. Off to eye up the tape holder gun thing too.

Cheap brown tape doesn’t stick to the box that well, but it does stick to itself, so I find the best way is to wrap the tape all the way around the box so that you can stick the end of the tape over the start of the tape.

I found both branded and unbranded were rubbish

I recently moved and researched this. Don't mess about. Get branded Cellotape brown packing tape from the range. Really strong and never came unstuck.

Hangingoctopus · 27/09/2023 19:01

Bought a range of parcel tape and cello tape but all unbranded, even splashed out with some fragile tape. Will let you know the outcomes.

Kraft brown paper tape is the best. It sticks, you can tear it by hand and it's better for the environment.
I have moved house twice this year!
