DS (17) Room.

I don't think he would be into anything decorative.

Seems a waste to just board over it

James Bond baddie style fish tank.

Bit of effort but assuming you don't need the chimney to be functional anymore then could you look at mounting a TV over the top and using it as a niche for a games console?

Is the chimney functional? I’d put a wood burner in or even a plug in pretend wood burner, uou get some nice ones now.

That's a cool idea but he's a PC gamer and has his monitor and PC set up elsewhere.

If it was my room I would so do that but he's 17, run hot like no ones business and would never use the fire so seems like a waste of money. Even though I think that's what would look nicest!

I would make a small cupboard or put shelving in there. At 17 it's worth having him try his hand at putting it together himself, a bit of YouTube guidance and let him at it.

A lot of people just neaten them up, put logs in them, and do this:

You know I'm actually going to do that. That's such a cute idea and he really likes making things. I'm going to take him to get some wood to make a wee cupboard to fit inside and some decorative moulding for the outside.

Thanks!

If he's at all into this kind of thing, he could quite easily turn it into a cupboard with a door that looks like an airlock.

Great idea, and SO pleased you are not boarding it up.
