What the hell is happening with flies this weekend?? I've had approximately 15 on my house over this weekend. What is going on?? I can't have windows or doors open.

None here currently, we did have maggots in our food bin last week though. 😫

Yes, and us for the first time!! We cleaned the bin and gave it a good bleach. Sooo many flies here!!!

I'd be checking for a dead bird up the chimney, or looking to see if the cat had brought a dead mouse in etc.

Our rental is on a farm. Even if everything is closed they still get in. This week we have tried to close the tiny gaps in sash windows with clay and cover extractors with mesh. They are completely relentless.

... so, instead, we have a gnat infestation, and the OH is waking up every morning covered in bites. Thankfully my blood is less tasty and we don't share a bedroom.

Anyway, last night the OH said September was the worst month last year for flies, so hopefully it will get better soon.

Let me know if you want a link to the most effective window stickers I have found. They're absolutely gross to use but very effective.

We ended up with a magnetic fly screen on the patio door. And then not so DCat2 brought in and released a mouse which (before we could extract it with a humane trap) fried itself under the TV stand by chewing a live cable. And we couldn’t find the corpse (we even opened the underneath of the sofa fabric) but boy did we find the flies. Ugh! Deep sympathy, OP!

@OneHundredOtters you don't need anything dead to get a fly infestation. Our loft is full of cluster flies, they like to escape the cold. The house flies seem to come in purely to torment me.

We don't have and never have had anything dead or dying or remotely attractive to flies anywhere in the house, ever, because I am obsessive and militant about leaving not even leaving so much as a knife with butter on out, yet they still come. Even we had a brief maggot infestation once this year despite me being batshit that nothing be left out they want to eat.
