Parking in front of garage in block

We're currently looking to buy a house (FTB) and viewed a lovely property today - there's no driveway, and very little on-road parking for the number of houses, but we would have access to a garage in a block adjacent to the house.

I know this is probably an agent question but putting it out there - does anyone know if you're able to park in front of your own garage in a block? There are 8 garages in a row. We have 2 cars, and due to the lack of available parking, it would be helpful to be able to use that space too.

Who generally owns the land a garage block is built on? Does the space in front belong to the garage owner too?

Any opinions or experience welcome - will be speaking to the agent on Monday.

A lot of people I know with garages like that do that. Many of them don't use their garages for storing cars at all

Just to add, there is enough space for a car to park, as well as further space to manoeuvre (i.e reverse / drive behind).

It's more about the legality, as I don't think I've ever seen cars parked in a garage block.

Could you go back one evening or weekend to have a look? It’s always useful to drive round the area at different times to see if there are any traffic or other issues - school parking, rat run, rush hour traffic, noisy neighbours, boy racers, youth hanging round etc.

I have a garage in a block and often park in front of it as the garage itself is a tight space to get in and out of. Lots of the other cars do the same.

Get a copy of the filed plan and register from Land Registry £3 each.

These should help clarify if the whole area is to be kept clear as a ROW or if you will own it.

I would check - lots of places I know don't allow parking in front of the garage and it's stated on the deeds

I had a garage in a block when I bought a new build flat and it stated that you couldn’t park in front of the garage.

The ones in my village got notes on them recently for parking in front of them (council block). Technically the same is true in the privately owned block down the road but given the residents police it as they own the block between them everyone does it respectfully and doesn't block anyone.
