Long story short, in the process of buying a 4 bed detached house, built in the 1970's. Currently has warm air vent heating system throughout the house. House is only attached to electric, not mains gas, though this is something we have budgeted to have installed, before the proposed 2025 ban on gas boilers.
Survey has come back to advise that the system has 'reached the end of its useful life' (we anticipated this) but also that the components are likely asbestos containing and so if we're removing it, we're obviously going to need it to be removed under specialist instruction.
I've had quotes back from 2 asbestos specialists. One for a management survey and another for a refurbishment survey. Obviously the refurbishment survey would be preferable but it's very invasive and unlikely the current owners would agree.
However, I'm nervous about waiting to get into the house, have the refurbishment survey done, then only to find our whole budget would be wiped on having the asbestos riddled heating system removed.
Has anyone had any works like this done before? Any rough costs? Obviously I'll go back to the company who quoted but every time I've posted for advice here everyone has been so helpful!
