We're trying to rearrange our kitchen to fit in a bigger fridge freezer. We're going to remove a breakfast bar with under counter fridge and freezer and put a huge fridge freezer on the wall. We can't really afford tradesmen, we've had 2 quotes for the work, both extortionate and a lengthy wait. So we're going it alone.
Can anyone help me with the following?
First, there's an electrical socket box in the cupboard that the fridge and freezer plug into. It is on the back of the cupboard rather than on the wall. Can we just move that box and screw it onto the wall instead (with electrics shut off obviously), or is that a massive job? I guess there will be cables and all. It's right next to the wall, just at right angles to it rather than flat against it if that makes sense.
Second- we'll need to replace the flooring in the kitchen. It's currently some sort of click laminate thing, we'll probably replace with something similar, we're not going for tiles or anything. Can anyone recommend a good brand for kitchens and how easy is this to fit on your own? It's only a small kitchen but there will be some cutting out required to fit round existing units which is annoying.
What's down there now has been there for 12 years so it has lasted well but I have no idea what brand it was or anything.
Am I crazy considering doing this by ourselves? Our current fridge is on its last legs, we're going to have to replace it. And I really don't want to replace like for like to save on workmen and diy to then regret not going for the big fridge freezer. We're pretty handy, we can take our time and work through a list of jobs quite methodically if we're clear about what we need to do. So I'm optimistic.
Grateful for any advice, or a wake-up call about the stupidity of doing this ourselves.
Thank you
