Modern day renting - how hard is it

I was browsing through rentals in area I live and £1k gets you a small 3 bed semi (obviously depending where in country you are it could more more or less). Factor in bills and other costs like child care and I am not sure how people get buy to be honest. When I was renting some 12 years ago I paid £495 for a small 2 bed semi and didn’t have children at time. Just seems incredibly hard these days

As well as the cost the main difficulty people I know who have recently started renting have encountered is getting a guarantor that the landlord thinks suitable.
