Where to live in north/east London

Hello.
We are thinking of moving into North/East London with our 1 and 3 year old. We want a fun area with good schools for them and some nice restaurants for us. We aren’t tied to an area or tube line because we work from home a lot. A bit of green space also a plus! And good amenities! Our budget is quite big but not big enough for Islington for example. We were looking at Muswell Hill and Stoke Newington but open to others. Please let me know what you think and if not these, where your top places would be and why! Thanks!

Budget…. How big exactly? And what are your expectations for space?

what do you like to do in your spare time? Are you sporty/arty/restauranty? Do you already have friends in London, where do they live? What do you do for work? Are you wanting to make friends locally? Are going to send your kids to school locally?

Stoke Newington and Muswell Hill are both lovely but £££. Depending on your budget, you’ll get much more for your money on the other side of the north circular. Look at Palmers Green/Southgate/Winchmore Hill. Nice Edwardian houses, lots of lovely parks and v good schools. Some nice restaurants and pubs too and easy to get into central London on tube or overground when you want to.

Forest Gate (particularly north of Romford Rd -(Windsor, Osborne and Hampton Rds, and Capel, Tylney, Latimer and Ridley Rds)), on Elizabeth line 15 mins to Farringdon), wonderful open space at Wanstead Flats and West Ham Park, plus excellent senior schools (Forest Gate Community School, St Angela’s (girls) and St Bonaventure’s (boys)

Agree with muswell hill, Crouch End, Crouch Hill. Highgate is where I would pick if I had the money though. Palmers Green was nice when I was little but not so much now. Enfield don’t touch.

I immediately thought of Muswell
Hill or Crouch End, be close to Ally Pally. Or Tufnell Park/Dartmouth Park and he closer to Hampstead Heath.

@SisterAgatha ouch! Enfield is fine!

Crouch End and Muswell Hill are lovely. We live close to Alexandra Palace on the Wood Green side but if you don't commute too much and budget allows then these two are lovely (but £££). Agree that beyond North Circular will obviously get you more for the money, just depends what you can afford!
