Packing service

Hello!

just wondering if anyone who has used a packing service to help with their house move would tell me roughly how much it cost, please?

I’m struggling to find a removal company who’ll come and give me a quote before I can give them a moving date but with a 2 and 6 year old in tow, if I’m going to pack myself I’d like to know sooner rather than later so I can crack on, and cost will probs seal the deal for us! We’re in the north but I’ll happily hear costs from anywhere.

thanks in advance :)

We've just been quoted £2.5k for a full packing and removal service. Moving from a 2 bedroom bungalow (inc garage and garden cabin/workshop) to a 4 bed house that's around 40 miles away.

Day 1 will be 2 x people coming to pack and day 2 will be 3 x people loading, moving and unloading. Some items of furniture will be dismantled/rebuilt.

It's the same company who provided this service when we moved from our previous house to the bungalow in late 2019 (extreme decluttering involved). At that time we moved less than 10 miles and it was around half the price that we've been quoted now. We were really happy with the service and vowed never to do our own packing again.

They should be completely used to you not
having a totally set in stone date with the nature of house buying. Have used packing service a few times and they've always been able to quote with just a ballpark date in mind.

The cost of packing on top of the cost of moving is usually just a couple of hundred - essentially paying labour. It is SO worth it.

They are ninjas. They wrap and pack so fast you can hardly see them do it. Anything not nailed down will be wrapped and packed. Including full waste paper bins and toilet brushes so be careful!

I think we paid around £3k for a massive length of the country move about 10 years ago. And just paid £1500 for a 3 bed terraced to 4 bed semi same city this year.

The packing cost will only be a small amount of the cost of the move - they quote small amounts because it’s actually far better for a removal company to have done the packing, they know how many vans to bring, they know stuff isn’t going to be broken and blamed on them, they know that the boxes won’t be too heavy to carry, and they know that they aren’t turning up to move a load of bin bags.

As an example, recent local move of a 5 bed London house - cost £2.75k, packing was something like £500 of that.

5 bed house - house move 2,400 packing was 500 of that.
