My first assumption would be that next doors garden looks scruffy especially their fence and they have expensive cars. Drug dealers? Ivy etc is nice if its maintained and not allowed to rampage over whole house, the roof, and onto neighbour's property.

Probably just prefer spending money on cars. Very few folks to deal to around there and the nearest big city is too far away to make that practical.

OP posts:

What's the point of this post OP? You come across as a bully. If you don't like this house then don't look at it on Rightmove. What's the point of criticizing it? What is the owner happens to me on MN or someone they know shows this thread to them?
If anything I think the house looks spacious, and is well kept. Honestly don't know why you get off on making fun off someone else's home.

electriclight · 27/08/2023 10:05

"Don't know the owner."

So you just found a house on Rightmove that has a feature you don't like, and started a thread to pull it apart?

That just feels so cruel and unnecessary. What if the owner sees the thread?

The ivy won't be to everyone's taste but I've seen hundreds of worse houses just this week.

Absolutely agree with you. Such a cruel thing to do.

Words - I like it, nice house.

This is what I think. I hate these posts. My DF is selling his house and I’d hate to say some arrogant arse I’m here taking the piss to keep their thumb busy on the shitter.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 27/08/2023 11:53

I’m always suspicious of posts like these I often wonder if it’s a jealous/disgruntled friend or relative who starts these type of threads, it’s a strange house to want to publicly pick apart, it’s not particularly noteworthy apart from some ivy or Virginia creeper that needs trimming, not like there are sex swings in the bedroom.

The OP does sound disgruntled!

Hopskiplou · 27/08/2023 12:01

Agree with last few posters, OP mocking not just the house but the area - which is one of farming and industry which keeps them fed and keeps the lights on. Apparently it was a surprise to find arable farming means flat land (you know, to grow that food you eat) and villages mean not many people.

I think this thread may well highlight this lovely house in a nice little village with a good community feel to a buyer.

Sunbathingflump · 27/08/2023 12:06

I expect the house has a spider infestation 🤢 perfect environment for house spiders to thrive!

The big black hair ones

BrokeAsABone · 27/08/2023 12:10

I like the house. It looks lovely - I even like the mezzanine and spiral staircase. I like houses that are quite quirky.

Reallybadidea · 27/08/2023 12:20

I think it's really nice too. It just needs a good trim which is much easier to do when the leaves fall off in winter.

Merapi · 27/08/2023 12:36

IWillNoLie · 26/08/2023 20:18

Looks more like Virginia creeper than ivy. Virginia creeper is nowhere near as damaging as ivy.

Yes it is Virginia creeper. Or possibly the similar Boston ivy, it's difficult to tell from a distance.

It will look sensational in autumn colours.

Merapi · 27/08/2023 12:45

IWillNoLie · 26/08/2023 20:24

Still getting out of control and looks like it is getting under the rafters.

They have another out of control creeper collapsing a rotten decking thing in the back garden too,

The one in the back garden is an enthusiastic wisteria - it is just starting to flower and you can see a few in the photo.

JanesBlond · 27/08/2023 13:46

I think it looks lovely. And the risk of damage to the building is overblown. My alma mater has been covered in ivy for hundreds of years and is sturdy as ever.

Cotswoldbee · 27/08/2023 13:52

KievLoverTwo · 26/08/2023 20:09

I call anything under thirty years old a new build cos they all look the same to me.

Exactly.

Have a look at the street view, it's even worse.

If all new-builds look alike to you I think it may be time for some new glasses! 😆🤓

Snooks1971 · 27/08/2023 14:11

Street view is actually a few (years?) ago because the hedge between this house and the neighbours is a lot lower, and so in the Rightmove pics it has been cut back quite a lot.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 27/08/2023 14:44

LimeJellyforBrains · 27/08/2023 00:38

OP, go onto Street View, go to the right of the house and then go up the first turning (The Chestnuts). Go past the first lamp post on the left and look at the skyline!!

Shock Oh that IS a bit off putting isn't it? It's not an old picture either. The street view is 2023!

Someone seems to have gone out of their way to grow ivy over this new build property
drpet49 · 27/08/2023 15:54

This is such a bizarre assumption.

Anxioys · 27/08/2023 22:23

Looks good! Ivy also keeps a house cool in the summer.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/08/2023 23:19

So cheap for big house an d garden! So jealous of northerners

Fatpotato · 28/08/2023 12:11

I think it is Virginia Creeper which goes a beautiful red colour in the autumn. However, it also has suckered that stick to the walls and mortar, so when you pull it off, it pulls all the mortar out too. My parents had it growing through the roof tiles and into the house itself.

StBrides · 28/08/2023 12:19

English Heritage did some studies on ivy on brickwork and found, contrary to common belief, it doesn't damage brickwork. In fact, it was found to be protective to houses and efficient in thermo-regulation, keeping buildings cooler in the summer & warmer in the winter.

Visually, the ivy needs a trim but I like it. Better for the environment, good for energy consumption & living environment and doesn't harm the masonry.
