Solar Panels

ConsideringAnything · 26/08/2023 10:18

I've just moved into a new house and want to put solar panels onto the rear of the roof (ssw facing).

Have googled like crazy, but am finding so many stories of dodgy companies, bad installs and huge bills

Anyone have recommendations of Companies to use, or things to watch out for, or things I should be considering?

Based in Glos/SW.

Which Magazine have a trusted traders thing that we found our solar panel people on. You have to be a subscriber though. I'll see if can dig out the company we used, though not sure about areas they cover..

I would be tempted to knock on neighbours doors who have them.

Thank you all so much, great suggestions here

I dug through the Property board a little deeper and found some useful information in other threads too.

Roxon Electrical did ours. We are in Glos. Would recommend. Great crew and local.

You might well find the smaller local companies come up with a better quote than the bigger firms with the flashy pitch. My local firm was recommended and the aftersales service was much better in my case too. I agree looking on the MCS website for a local installer is a good start but get a personal recommendation if possible. An MCS registered installation is also required by Octopus Energy who have the best range of export tariffs (although they are now moving away from requiring MCS). Beware of hard selling techniques like time limited discounts. Feel free to share any quotes here for advice.

We’re in the south-west and used Tile Energy for our install in April last year. Can’t fault them on the install or after sales service. My only slight annoyance is that they didn’t suggest bird protection when we ordered and as we didn’t know it was a thing we didn’t raise it. We ended up with pigeons nesting which caused some damage so had to get them back out to do a repair and install the protection at a later date.

Sammysees · 27/08/2023 09:20

Agree with @CoxwellHuge . Bird/squirrel protection well worth the extra £300 or so (depending on how large your system is). Are you considering battery storage too?

@DougMLancs I’m going to assume from your username that you are in my area, would you mind sharing who did yours?

No problem- I used Mick at MBE Energy https://mbe-energy.co.uk/. He’s based in Garstang but covers a lot of Lancashire. I need to get him back next year to put panels on the garage as well- more is more!

@DougMLancs thanks! I’m about 45 minutes away so worth giving him a try.

Octopus are now fitting solar panels which at least gives big name recognition

Use the MCS scheme.

Hi,
If you are consider getting solar panels for your home, I recommend that you look into renewable energy companies in your area. Some may be able to provide you with a free assessment and cost estimates for solar panel installation. Additionally, if you install solar panels at your property you may be eligible for government incentives which could help to offset the costs of installation.

I recommend Warma Solar - they have a great team of professionals and offer very competitive prices. They provide a comprehensive site assessment and detailed quote so you can make an informed decision about which solar system is right for your home. Plus, if you go ahead with their services they will take care of all the paperwork to make sure that you get the maximum benefit from government incentives.

Good luck!
