Skeiling Ceiling Bathroom

Hi All,

I have a skeiling ceiling in the bathroom. As part of the renovation project, how do I go on about making this look good? Cannot clad as that would reduce the height of the bathroom by about a foot as that would mean bringing it all line where the tiles have been removed. Anyone got any ideas please or have had this issue and what they've done to resolve it please? 🙂

I have a very similar bathroom ceiling. Mine is just painted and it looks fine. But it looks as though you might have polystyrene tiles(?) in which case they definitely need removing as they’re a massive fire hazard. I would pull those tiles down, board the ceiling with plasterboard suitable for wet areas, and get it skimmed and painted.

Be certain the tiles don't contain asbestos before breaking them or pulling them down.

Yes, tiles will be coming off - its just how to finish it nicely.

@Helenahandkart how has it been with painting the ceiling? Any issues with damp/mould or has it been OK? 🙂

Are not most bathroom ceilings painted?

I'dremive tiles, board, skim, and paint too.

I did have problems with a bit of black mould above the shower when I used Dulux bathroom paint.
I repainted with Zinsser anti-mould paint a few years ago and there hasn’t been any mould since then. We have a small extractor fan and keep the window open as much as possible.
