Omaze - Devon

Come on everyone, put me off entering into this. Because I’ve basically already moved in, my bags are packed and I’m about to sell my house for the minute I’m told I’ve won the house.

Please bust my bubble so I can get over it. It’s next to a landfill site? Built on an ancient burial ground?

If you want to see more photographs, Google Bottor Cottage, Hennock.

A beautiful house, but I would be concerned about the deer eating my plants. I love wildlife but I also love my garden!

BiscoffBear · 22/08/2023 11:40

Wow it is gorgeous isn’t it.
Race you there OP! 😀

Joking aside though, I’m always a bit sceptical about these Omaze houses.

I mean it really does seem to be too good to be true to genuinely win one.

How do we know that all these happy smiley people in the photos, holding the keys to them, aren’t just the second cousins once removed of a member of staff’s great aunties’ brother in law, posing as winners..?!

Call me a wizened old sceptic but until I win one I’m reserving judgement on the veracity of the whole set up.

Hope that goes some way towards bursting your bubble ! 🤣

@Barnabyted oh trust me, I have. I’ve stalked the architect, the council applications, I know the name of the previous owner… I am unhinged.

The running costs of these houses will be huge
I think many winners end up selling them

You usually get between £100,000 and £250,000 to start you off lol it that isn't enough to substitute your (mortgage free) extra bills then you're doing something wrong,

I would sell this one though too far from family!

dinkydino123 · 22/08/2023 14:49

I love this house. It actually looks like a house you could live in - rather than a glass box on the edge of a cliff!

Will have my fingers and toes crossed 🤞

Don’t they credit and criminal check you? And decide if you should win or not.

there was a post on it somewhere here a few months ago.

AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek · 22/08/2023 15:34

Yea I read that thread about credit checking you, but I don’t see how they could? I guess they’ve got my debit card details from when I paid my £10 but beyond that, don’t they need more information?

So this may be a very dumb question but...you can enter for free to all Omaze draws with a postcard? Is that right?

AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek · 22/08/2023 15:53

@Hollyisalrightactuallysorry yes I think it’s one entry per household, as opposed to £10 entry gets you 25 ‘entries’, £25 gets you more, £50 gets you even more. And so on.

OP posts:
BarnacleBeasley · 22/08/2023 16:03

@Hollyisalrightactuallysorry I think you can enter as many times as you like for free, but you need a different postcard for each entry. So once you've added up the cost of all the stamps, you might as well just buy an entry and that way some of the money goes to charity.

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/08/2023 16:07

I can only read that in the annoying tv ad presenters voice.

Nice house though.

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 22/08/2023 16:21

@AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek @BarnacleBeasley

Lovely, thanks! Money is super tight this month with loads of household repairs (could do with a new house come to think of it 🤔 😆) so I might chance a free entry and then set something up for the next one!

FredaFox · 22/08/2023 16:23

I'm sure I read that a lot of the houses are houses that have been hard to sell
One was built after lots of floods and locals wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

Has anybody ever won a competition by sending in a postcard?
I lays aww the option on itv and just think surely they wouldn't let a free entry win

Found it, sorry it's the mail

This always put me off

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 22/08/2023 16:29

This thread has actually prompted me to look into the radio 'make me a winner' competition which I also am always tempted to win.

Which has revealed I can just win a local number free on my phone plan and enter the same and expensive text way.

Lots of dreaming about houses and bucketfuls of money now...sigh

Bookworm333 · 22/08/2023 17:21

Any schools near that Devon house? Because I love it and I'm ready to move in! I've never entered Omaze before, I always thought it was just too good to be true, but it's probably a better investment than the lottery...

feeona123 · 22/08/2023 19:49

Gutted it’s only worth £2 million….would’ve liked more when I sell it! 😜

rbe78 · 04/10/2023 16:42

Sigh - they're announcing the winner tomorrow and nobody called me today to tell me that I won! Hope whoever has won enjoys it!

AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek · 04/10/2023 19:52

I thought they were drawing tomorrow and announcing Friday?
