Removals quote

Just want to see if this is a fair quote?

£2k to move a 3 bed house (limited furniture as not taking sofas, only 1 bed) so mainly contents. 90 miles journey.
Including packing but not materials (£2 per box so assuming 20 boxes?). £350 is the price for the packing.

I feel its probably fair but we had another quote of £1200 but not including packing which we definately want.

Sounds fair to me.

whirlyhead · 18/08/2023 16:06

That sounds reasonable to me. Packing is so worth paying for - they do it fast and know how to pack awkward items.

Your quotes sound quite normal these days.

I moved from a 2 bed, roughly same distance as your move give or take a few miles. I got 4 quotes as I couldn’t believe how insane some of them were. This was priced with me packing and providing boxes, etc.

Quote 1 - £2,500
Quote 2 - £3,800 (this firm also said if they couldn’t unpack in the new property due to 5pm cut-off in the evening they’d “leave the lorry parked in a lay-by overnight and come back to unpack the next day”. Er hell no.).
Quote 2 - £2,200
Quote 4 - £900. Yes, £900.

I opted for quote 4 after checking their reviews. They were so cheap as they were a fairly new company so had priced low to basically get their name out there. They were brilliant, everything fully insured and arrived safely, furniture put in correct rooms, bed assembled and zero breakages.

Get the other firm to also quote for packing so you have a comparison.

lemonyfox · 19/08/2023 19:00

As a comparison, we moved a 3 bed (ton of furniture and contents) that we self packed, 6 miles up the road, and that was £750. Your distance is considerably more plus packing so I'd say it's pretty fair.

You'll definitely need more than 20 boxes though, if my own experience is anything to go by.

honeyandfizz · 19/08/2023 19:04

I moved a month ago, 3 bed average amount of furniture, 5 miles up the road and it was 2k so yours is about right.

Nw22 · 19/08/2023 19:07

We are paying £1500 for removals and packing to move about 5/6 miles. From a 4 bed house but only 1 bed.

mnahmnah · 19/08/2023 19:15

We are moving from a large 2 bed house, with them dismantling and reassembling some complex bunk beds and a king size sleigh bed with drawers, three sofas, plus the rest. Not packing for us or providing boxes. Moving 5 miles away. But it’s £595!

RidingMyBike · 19/08/2023 19:19

Seems reasonable. We got quotes between £4.5k and £5.5k for a 4 bed move going 200 miles including packing.

I can't imagine needing only 20 boxes - bear in mind that things like duvets, coats, shoes and wardrobe contents all get packed into boxes. We had 40 alone just for the kitchen stuff!

Twinsincoming23 · 19/08/2023 20:18

Thank you all.
We've accepted the quote.
The other remover didn't offer packing at all and i honestly can't cope (have kids and pregnant with twins too!) So as much help needed as possible.
We are going to try and pack a lot of 'easy stuff' like clothes ourselves as we have a large car and lots of suitcases so trying to save on boxes that way!
