Bi Fold Doors Cost

Hi All, I hope you're well.

Just a quick Q re bi folding and the cost. How is it calculated? I initially wanted 5m wide doors but this has now to be reduced to 4m and my builder has said that the cost would be the same and it is not based on the meterage which I find very hard to believe. Is this correct? Surely less glass, less material means less cost?

Probably true. I recently brought 2.4 metre doors and they were the same cost as the 2.7m ones. There was only a jump to the 3m ones which was a few hundred more from memory.

That's a difference of 30cm so i can sort of understand but mine is a 1m difference.. that's 1m less glass plus they'll be rest frame etc required

When I was quoted a while back it was £1k per window strip. Regardless of size which I thought was odd too.

Yeah I can’t really explain it but definitely have the mindset with bifolds that bigger doesn’t always mean more (cost). Not sure it always is necessarily less material. For instance for me, going from 2.4m to 3.5m I think it was meant an extra pane. 2.4m was three panes, 3 point whatever it was metres was 4 panes. That’s an extra lot of aluminium frame and glass - they can only make them so wide. So, looking at yours, I could believe that 4m is 4 panes and 5m is five panes but smaller glass width than the 4m so coat the same?
