Can we treat/block knots in wood work that has already been glossed?

No. The knotting solution needs to be applied before painting to stop the resin going through to the paint.

Sort of. If you mean without needing to do anything to the gloss, then no.

You'll need to rub down the area, prime it with a stopper (Zinsser bullseye or Zinsser 123 are excellent), then re-gloss. Depending on whether oil or water based gloss was used previously depends on whether you'll need to paint the while thing or just touch in. The latter will be easier if the original gloss was water based as it is likely to still be white (assuming it was white in the first place).

I would try lightly sand the knotty areas, spot treating with Zinsser BIN and then go over that area again with gloss. You might need to regloss the whole area depending on how long since it was painted and whether it has started to yellow 🤞

👍👍😂😂

Zinsser is amazing stuff. I only discovered it in the last few years. Don't know how I managed before.
