Cost of a rewire

How much would you expect to pay to rewire a 2 bed property?

It depends whether any chasing of walls is required and whether the contractor will be making good.

The price of copper is astronomical at the moment, so my guess would be somewhere between £2000 and £4000.

I can't help you on costs, but a couple of suggestions. Make sure you include plenty of sockets (and I mean plenty!), and consider doing some cat 5 wiring from the router location to the main locations (TV's, workspaces, heavily used bedrooms) so that you can have a wired set-up for the internet.

I recently had a quote of 8k plus VAT, but that's a 4 bed with garage and an outbuildings. Another quote was 10k plus VAT if I moved out but 13k plus VAT if I was living in property. I assume he wasn't keen on the job!

Ours was 2k for a 3 bed but that was several years ago. It's also a lot quicker (and therefore) cheaper if you can arrange not to be there while it's done (we timed it with our holiday).
