Hi, I am looking to move out of London and Witham seemed to be an affordable option for an easy commute to my job. After weeks of searching we found a house we love and had our offer accepted. It is on 'Redrow Mulberries' its in the cachment area of the two outstanding schools. We saw Matlings Academy as Outstanding School for Secondary. so thought this the right place to buy. but i have lot of confusion around the Area, how safe for my daughter overall.

I really like Witham. Very nice town

I've worked in Witham and have a lot of friends who grew up there/lived there. It's a fairly nice area, an actual high street with some nice coffee shops and restaurants. Chelmsford is on your doorstep which js pretty handy and you're surrounded by countryside. There's the typical local drunks but nothing too rowdy and like anywhere, there's good and bad areas. The Mulberries is on the outskirts so nice but you have some beautiful period properties more central to town and the station at a reasonable price. It really depends on what you want!

Only side point if you commute to London, is that the Greater Anglia line can be an absolute shitshow. I'm now on C2C after moving and it's far more reliable!

Hi @SMM2020 , not sure but someone on internet mentioned like Witham A.K.A Sh**Ham . Is it really true , i didn't see much nuisance after my three visit to Witham though it was only in Day time. If you can help me if anything i should be worried about.

Sorry @vinimgr, busy few days!

Yeh it is a thing that witham is called sh*tham. I think for teenagers it can seem that way because there's very little in the way of things to do I.e. no cinema, no bowling alley etc but most people go to Chelmsford or Braintree for that. As they get older though, they can get the train or bus pretty easily to these places.

I personally think it's a nice area generally and definitely improved in respect of cafe culture as more people have moved there from London. I have two young children and wouldn't mind living there but we needed to be closer to Brentwood so settled with Langdon Hills, which is also a very nice area btw!

It’s a lovely area. We moved from london 6 years ago and haven’t looked back. So much better for family life, feel very safe here.
