Sawing a coffee table in half

My coffee table is far too large for my lounge. It is 47inch long and 27inch wide. 4 legs. Can I literally saw 12 inches out of the middle and glue it together? If so what glue would be best? Or any other method? Don’t care if it doesn’t look good as can cover it and make it look nice. Can’t afford a new coffee table but have got an electric saw. It seems to easy to be able to do it - what am I missing?

Ok so excuse the crap drawing. This current configuration. The sofas and coffee table are wrong size. Also need advice on how best to divide the 2 ends. No space for book cases to be a divider

Saw it in half and use the middle bit as a chopping board. I think your layout is good although you could maybe have sofas in an L shape?

I have tried that - it looks shit. The sofa behind the drawers is big and a 3 seater. The sofa opposite (near the tv) is a small 2 seater. I think I need to get rid of the big 3 seater and buy a small 2 seater plus some floor cushions and a smaller coffee table. Unless I take a saw to the existing coffee table 😂

Any saw will do. Circular saw neatest if you know what you're doing. Watch out for any metal fixings, especially if it's someone else's blade!

Yep- don't know what I am doing but happy to learn.
Any ideas on how best to separate the 2 areas?
