Really like the open shower look versus old tiny 76 cm cubicle which we have
Will I regret it and will water be forever on the floor. I have careless teenagers
Pics of what I want and what we currently have..😀

I have an open shower currently in a wet room. The floor slopes slightly so that most of the water stays in the shower area. I wouldn't have a completely open shower in a standard bathroom though - you need the whole floor to be waterproofed - in my view.

How about a larger cubicle? Or fixed screens like this one...

Open is so much easier to clean! The floor should be angled towards the drain so the water doesn’t go over the whole floor.

I have two open showers and I love them. The shower trays are really long so water doesn't spray out to wet the floor. One has tiled walls either side and is open at the end. The family bathroom one has a glass shower screen 2/3 across then open to step in and out. I thought I might need an angled section of screen adding to that one to stop water spraying out but haven't.

As long as your drainage is excellent its fine

QueenMegan · 12/08/2023 13:32

Thank you
The plumber said because it's a concrete floor I need to have a raised floor.

So a completely new floor then to have it at an angle or just the shower floor bit.
I really like the aesthetic of an open shower. I hate my bottom touching the cold cubicle glass 😣

Fispi sounds good do you have a picture ..or is it a similar concept to the design I have shown 🤔

We have an open shower but with a shower tray so no water going all over the floor.

mynewusername2023 · 12/08/2023 13:45

We have an open shower but it has glass down 2/3 of the long side and then 2/3 of the short end to create and opening and then we have a piece that moves. We've not had any issues but then we are two fairly careful adults and I didn't want a door because it's just more places for the water to sit and go mouldy. I'd probably not do it if I had kids who couldn't care about the mess they make.

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 14:01

I'd get similar to what you've got but with a door and a large single pane of glass as the wall part.

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 14:01

Of what you want

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 14:02

I'll start again

I'd get similar to what you want but with a door and a large single pane of glass as the wall part.

We've just renovated and 1 of the showers is open like you describe. When you walk in though, the smaller panel can be moved back and forth like flap, to open the entrance more if needed. Our tray is angled toward the plug hole and we don't get any water on the floor. Our tray is 1600mm wide though. Maybe if its was smaller, with less glass between the shower head and entrance- it might get splashed out.

Make sure you get a plug hole with a basket. I have long hair and am forever clearing the basket get out- but this is much easier than clearing a blocked drain!

Think about making a recessed shelf into the shower wall, which gets tiles. We didn't, and currently have one of those flimsy, metal caddy things hanging over the top. I really wish we'd thought ahead and put in a built shelf!

OP- the pic of the shower you want looks to have a meal frame with little glass panels in between. Is the metal within the glass panels- or can you feel the metal ridge either inside our outside the shower? Unless this was completely smooth- its going to be a PITA to clean, because ever bit of dust, hair etc will settle on all the metal grooves!

SweetPetrichor · 12/08/2023 14:19

We have an open shower (not by choice, bought the house that way) and I hate it! We have a shower tray so in theory it should be pretty contained but water still gets out on the floor. It is the worst design ever.

WasteOfPaint · 12/08/2023 14:49

I have one, with a tray rather than wet room style. Water doesn't get on the floor while showering, but it definitely does when you clean the tray!

nameitagain · 12/08/2023 14:54

Can't tell from the picture but it looks like the glass frame sits inside the black base. So it's a tray. That along with the open section having a small return and the shower space being quite large means you won't get water everywhere.

If you have an open shower ur can't be too shall it water will go outside if it

Deadringer · 12/08/2023 14:54

We are staying in a holiday home, the bathroom is a wet room and i hate it, wading through other people's shower water whenever I want to pee or brush my teeth is not my idea of fun! There is no enclosure here at all though, just a sloped floor, I think the one you like looks lovely and quite practical.

Twiglets1 · 13/08/2023 13:54

We have an open shower in our en suite and water doesn't leak onto the floor outside the shower area at all - the floor slopes slightly so all the water flows towards a drain in the floor.

Much prefer an open shower now. The one you have posted a photo of in your OP looks similar to ours.

Newestname002 · 13/08/2023 14:57

I have a rain shower over the bathtub (it's the only bathroom in the house). If I had a second bathroom (which I'd love but can't afford) I'd have a walk-in shirt with tray so the water is contained with tall glass panels. 🌹
