I’m in the market for engineered wood flooring for our sitting-dining room. This afternoon I’ve visited a few local suppliers looking at various brands, but, have to admit, I was carried away looking mostly at colours and finishes. I am now examining samples that I’ve brought home (all tongue and groove type) and noticed a difference in construction. A set of samples from one brand have a solid multilayer plywood base topped with the real oak wear layer. The other brand’s samples also have oak top layer and then a two-layer base, with the middle bit constructed of narrow ‘planks’ with some gaps between them. Is it normal? Is it good or bad?
