Where to move Yorkshire area

I'm looking to move to somewhere in the Yorkshire area. Currently in N.Essex but I'm looking for a complete change.

I don't have any clue about any areas of Yorkshire and I'm open to anywhere. I want to be rural or based on the outskirts of a village and I need to be near good independent schools. I don't need to be near to trains or good public transport infrastructure.

All suggestions about a nice area welcome!

Having lived in several places in Yorkshire the 'bleakness' is more to do with altitude than latitude - the climate/what will grow is much better in the rich agricultural lands of North Yorkshire close to the A1 than ~70 miles further south at 1000 ft near the M62!

Exactly. We are at about 550 ft altitude in South Yorkshire which isn't that high, but it is always a couple of degrees cooler than where I work near Wakefield.

DH's best friend and colleague lives near @RampantIvy (👋) and there is a running joke that that town had its own climate, because he has several more snow days than anyone else.

Nothing wrong with Hebden Bridge if you're worried about flooding, don't pick in the lowest part of the town. You want more rural so likely you'd pick somewhere out of town anyway.
It's not been wetter in Hebden than anywhere else in the country this June! June was a very dry month actually.
There's Rishworth school, have a look around there. HX6 and Barkisland, Krumlin, Ripponden HX4. Lots of rural spots

Thanks for all recommendations!

I have no public transport where I am and grew up without any so it really isn't something I am bothered by

What is Hebden Bridge like? I've spotted something lovely on RM there.

Have you seen happy valley? 🤣

Based on my experience living in Harrogate and Calderdale, I recommend considering Lincolnshire or South Yorkshire for better property value. Be aware that West Yorkshire has a population of over 2.5 million and the M62 can be gridlocked. Travelling from A to B in North Yorkshire can take a while.

All areas in this region are beautiful, with lush greenery, rolling hills, and charming remote villages that offer ample amenities. Amazon provides a convenient option for delivering goods that may not be available locally, while rain and snowfall are common during the spring, autumn, and winter months.

Schools in North Yorkshire/Calderdale are a mixed bag, with a combination of private schools, grammar schools, and comprehensives that cater to a range of ability levels.
