Porch/Entranceway

Our property is surrounded by garden on all sides, but the driveway and access is the 'front' of the house (shown on diagram!). However our front door is on the side of the house, via a porch which is reaching the end of its life!

We would like to be able to fence off the useable garden, but with the current orientation of the porch/front door this will be tricky without sacrificing a big portion of usable garden space. We also dislike that the current front door means that people have to come right round the property, into our more private garden space.

The sun rises to the right of the garage, and sets just off the side of the conservatory. This means that the side of the house provides the best light/best garden space.

I was thinking of swapping the W/C and front door, but this seems a waste of good light. Any clever ideas would be appreciated (whether this would involve an extension or not!).

Thank you!

swapping WC and porch seems sensible if the plumbing is easy to move (it often is not).

even simpler might be to make the porch a little larger and move the door to the side which is 'down' in your image. then you can put a fence across to keep the rest of the garden private.

do you use the Garage to store cars? if not, you could make a new front door + utility room in the garage.

Make the front porch wall level with the loo and put the door on the front.

Plumbing would work - but I do question whether it would be worth the cost. Though it would make the front door look like the front door, but could lead to a galley like hallway.

Long term we may think about doing something with garage to create more dining space/utility (garage currently acts as an informal utlity), so keen to leave that alone for now - also not sure about having two hallway like spaces.

Think the idea of increase current porch and changing orientation may work best, could have a larger 'boot room type area with storage and windows to bring in more light. What do you think about adding a open porch type structure to frame the entrance at an angle, e.g. as per yellow?
