Hello

We were in private. Got housing costs part of universal credit. Bought a flat from my mother. Housing element stopped and suddenly they message to offer the smi loan. Anyone take this ? I understand its pay back if we sell and it stops if /when we are taken off the benefit ( like when thr children are older/ benefits changes for my autistic child), but when we die we want leave them the property and will they only need pay it back if they sell?

We can swing the mortgage without it but it would be some help in the here and now.

Any advice /experience welcome.

I wouldn't bother if you're OK managing just about ok without it, as realistically we're about peak interest rates we're told, and it's going to accrue interest anyway (currently 3.28%), and it needs repaying when the property is sold (or passed on). I think it might be a money worry later.

I tend to agree with you actually. We will leave it unless we were desperate needing the help.
