@meagaein we didn't have one if those in my childhood home, but we had one in a student flat I rented in the 1990s, and MiL still has the one from her childhood home. In both instances, that piece of furniture was called a "press".

A washbasin/vanity unit type thing shut away in a cupboard in a bedroom.

No (washbasin in a newsroom cupboard). We didn't have an inside bathroom for ages (tin bath in 1970's)
